I once had a client compare meeting a new therapist to being on a blind date. No one therapist approaches challenges the same way and we are all unique just like you. While it may feel like being on a blind date, reading a therapist’s bio is a way to take some of the guesswork out of the equation. I received my M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Frostburg State University in 2005 and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2013. Over the years I have had the privilege of working with a diverse population of individuals including LGBTQ+ and adults with Mild Intellectual Disability. While my counseling background is primarily based in CBT, I also draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. One of the aspects I love regarding counseling is there can be more than one way to achieve a desired outcome, meaning everyone’s therapeutic journey is uniquely different. We can talk, draw, create sensory bottles, do simple yoga poses - the only thing we are limited by is our imagination.

Life tends to throw us curve balls. With all of our energy spent juggling obligations, responsibilities, and managing daily stresses, it's easy to wake up one day and realize that you just feel "stuck." Making the decision to begin therapy can be difficult, but it's the first step towards regaining control of your life. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, experiencing relationship difficulties, or just want a different perspective on whatever is holding you back, I'm here to help you navigate and overcome these challenges. Every person's situation is unique. I do not treat the therapeutic process as "one-size-fits all." While my theraputic approach is grounded in psychodynamic theory, I utilize CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, expressive art, and play therapy techniques. I work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a variety concerns, involving mood disorders, ADHD and behavioral issues, sexuality and gender exploration, identity development, family of origin issues, interpersonal conflicts, and unresolved trauma. I believe that the most important aspect of a successful therapy experience is a strong, authentic relationship with your therapist, which is why I emphasize developing trust and respect in order to create a comfortable, supportive space for you to work towards personal growth and a happier, more satisfying life.

You’ve officially taken the first step toward healing. Finding a therapist can be a daunting task and only you are the expert of your own life. Practicing from a non-pathological lens, I feel honored to have worked with a variety of concerns: mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-spectrum disorders, eating disorders, substance use issues, attention-deficit disorders and gender-identity concerns. I fervently believe in the power of incorporating mind, body and spirit into my work as we are incapable of healing without the consideration of somatic experiences. Above all, I use the therapeutic bond to create lasting change as healing is especially difficult when trust and comfort is absent. I look forward to building a relationship with you.

I strongly believe in being authentic, honest, and real with my clients. I believe in meeting people where they are, and finding ways to help them get to where they want to be. Many have found their counselor to not fully understand them, or not challenge them. I connect with others by finding common ground, letting others' passions shine through, and creating moments of real, genuine care for one another. This includes challenging people to reach goals when they struggle with motivation. Those that I serve have a variety of real, valid problems. I utilize my role as a stepping stone in a person's path to better health. I offer services for individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, and trauma, working to build upon established strengths. I enjoy working with families and couples, improving their relationships and finding resolutions to their conflicts. In addition, I provide an objective and honest perspective to build insight into a person's difficulties. I understand that finding a counselor who is the right fit can be a difficult decision. To expose your vulnerability and needs takes courage and motivation. I invite you, a person looking for help in your struggle, to consider me for that privileged role. I look forward to meeting with you, and walking with you in your path. Feel free to call or email me!
